The Backup Manager

This article explains how backups are handled in the Website Editor.

 


Basic Knowledge

Backups in the Website Editor are managed via the Backup Manager. They are snapshots of your website at a specific point in time. If you are actively working on a website in the Website Editor, an automatic backup is created every 5–10 minutes. This means that if you work on a website for three hours, for example, 36 automatic backups will be created during this time.

A deletion process is triggered at the end of the day. The Backup Manager saves...

  • ...the last backup of an hour of the last 24 hours
  • ...the last backup of a day of the last 7 days
  • ...the last backup of a week of the last 52 weeks

When the maximum of 400 backups has been reached, the oldest version is deleted. Manually created backups are not deleted based on the time intervals, but only if the maximum number of backups has been exceeded and then the oldest manual backup is also started.

Please note that a backup is only created for a page if you actually edit the website in the website editor.

Backup Manager

The Backup Manager is located at the top left of the menu.

  1. To open the Backup Manager, please click on the burger menu (three horizontal stripes at the top left). The navigation will now open on the left.

  2. Click on "Backups". You can now choose between the individual backups. The current backup is always at the top of the list.

  3. Click on "Restore". An overlay will open where you can select which components of this backup you want to restore. You can choose whether you want to restore the website and/or one or more collections.
    1. Website: This includes all subpages with their layout, content and design settings as well as the styles of the collection listings and the individual page layout of the collections.
    2. Collections: Includes everything in the Collections Manager, such as the collection content and the data fields.

  4. Everything that is marked as selected via the checkbox will also be restored. Select the options you want to carry out and click on "OK".
  5. Wait a moment and do not close the browser tab. The Website Editor will now load the version you have selected.
  6. To open the Backup Manager, please click on the burger menu (three horizontal stripes at the top left). The navigation will now open on the left.

If you do not like the corresponding backup, please select a different version. You can find more information about the collection backup in the Collection backup help article.


Manual Backups

If you want to save a specific version of the website, you can also create and name manual backups. To do this, please go to the Backup Manager and save your version with your own name.


Backups of deleted websites

If your website has been completely deleted in the Project Manager, it is not possible to restore it without further ado. You will need the help of our developers. In this case, please contact support and provide us with the following information:

  • Name of the website
  • Customer ID
  • the Website ID (if possible)
  • Timestamp at which the website may have been deleted

Unfortunately, this process is very extensive and involves many hours of work. As a result, such a backup with fixed costs of USD 450 or € 450. Before we can start the backup, you must give us your consent and have a payment method in your account.
